Bards are, hands down, the most difficult class to play.

They have tons of skills, spells, healing and decent combat ability. Most of their class features focus on making them even more versatile as they gain levels. They are fantastically useful party members and are able to make their allies even better at their jobs, while never having one of their own.

Most bards act as stand ins for the other party members. If the cleric is down, they become the healer. The rogue gets blinded, now they’re the stealth expert. They can take some of the heat off the front liners and cast mind bending enchantments while still providing a flanking bonus.

Being a decisive player is important to having fun playing a bard. Otherwise you’ll be looking at a pile of useful spells and skills and combat options and get paralyzed trying to figure out which one is the best choice.
